Robert F. Bowles started the Saluda County Ambulance Service on July 1st, 1974. Over the next 41 years he grew the service from having just a few volunteers to 3, fully staffed, paid Ambulances. Robert served at the EMS Director until the service was taken over Saluda County in 2015. In his time as the Director, Robert chose not to be compensated for that role, and he was only compensated for his role as a Nursing Home Administrator. Robert proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
