Marvin Bethea

Paramedic
St Vincents CMC
New York, NY
Age: 62
End of Service: 04/29/2022
Circumstances: World Trade Center Illness

Marvin was a paramedic for St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital of Queens, New York. He was an unsung hero and on one of the first ambulance crews to respond to Ground Zero on 9/11. He was quoted as saying, “We weren’t thinking of ourselves. We were thinking of the public.” He exchanged letters with a local Girl Scouts troop after his medically necessary retirement and during his lengthy illness. Though recognized as a gentle warrior, he was a fierce advocate for federal first responder benefits, providing countless interviews with political correspondents who covered World Trade Center illnesses as they emerged and evolved.
