What is the purpose of the Fallen Angel Fund?
The Fallen Angel Fund is a fund that has been established for providing onetime $500 gifts. The Ride also offers financial assistance to family members of EMS personnel after a loss of life. The Fallen Angel Fund is the direct product of fund-raising efforts each year. Modest awards are provided to families to offset costs associated with but not limited to: funeral arrangements, medical expenses, education of survivors, and other memorials.
How does one apply for Fallen Angel Funding?
Requests for to the Fallen Angel Fund can be made by filling out an application on this website. The requester for the onetime gift shall be a family member of the Fallen Angel (parent, spouse, registered domestic partner, dependent(s) or Guardian of dependent(s) of the Fallen Angel). The family (as defined above) shall have full discretion of how monies received from the Fallen Angel Fund shall be spent. In the absence of a request by family as described above, the deceased’s Agency may request funds on behalf of the family to be used for Memorial Services and/or a permanent Memorial only. All requests must be received within one calendar year of the date of death of the Fallen Angel, unless otherwise specified.
What is the role of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride?
Every request will be reviewed by a committee of at least 3 members appointed by the Board of Directors to ensure validity and appropriateness. The Request must meet the requirements of the Fallen Angel above. This individual shall be someone who has been or will be formally honored by the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride (NEMSMBR). When verified, funds will be paid out in the order in which the requests were received, and based upon funding availability. The Fallen Angel Fund does not promise a timeline of when funds will be paid out. The NEMSMBR receives contributions for the Fallen Angel Fund by direct donation, and raises funds through its long-distance bicycling events.
