Joe loved Arizona Iced Tea. He loved smoker grills and wanted to open his own establishment. He worked part time for Carolina East EMS and as needed for Fort Barnwell and Pamlico County EMS. Joe was attending Craven Community College pursuing his paramedic licensure. He let it be known that he belonged to a brotherhood of EMTs, and one of his supervisors noted that he stated his gratitude for being hired nearly every shift he worked. On his last shift he collapsed beside the ambulance while retrieving equipment to provide care to a patient.
