Gil began his career with NYC EMS in 1977 when the City Hospital System (HHC) was in charge of the EMS services. He was a first responder at the WTC after 9-11-01. Gil was the type of officer you could open up to and was trusted and respected throughout the department. He worked his way up the chain of command to retire as a captain in 2003. Even after retirement, Gil was instrumental in bringing a Counseling Service Unit into the department.
Outside of work, he had two beautiful daughters Janine & Tara and 2 grandchildren Christopher & Isabella who he adored. He loved the outdoors, especially camping.
