Bill Akers had a 40+ year career in EMS in Southwest VA. In 1987, he was one of the original volunteer flight paramedics that began the Virginia State Police Med-Flight II program in Abingdon. He later became the program director at the local community college’s EMS program. In that role, Bill helped train many EMS providers and indirectly touched thousands more patients. He has received many recognitions over the years including recently being recognized by the VA governor for ‘EMS Excellence’. He’s survived by his wife, Cherie, two children, Bethany & Nathaniel, and two grandchildren.
